Port Houston is an economic engine that produces and prosperity for the local and state economy. Their impact on the infrastructure, culture, and history of Houston could not be understated. Port Houston recently rebranded itself but noticed their brand lacked visibility at the port itself. Being the main entrance to the port, Centennial Gate is where the public has the most contact and interaction with Port Houston. To combat the building’s lack of visibility and association with the port, a series of metal friezes and building graphics were designed to bring interest and attention to Centennial Gate checkpoint. Using the frieze as an opportunity for brand messaging to reach the public, the building graphics focus on bringing an educational experience to visitors with maps of the Ship Channel.
